Mangope wants job back

DEPOSED United Christian Democratic Party leader Lucas Mangope is demanding that he be reinstated as party leader.

The former Bophuthatswana leader's lawyers have demanded that current party leader Sipho Mfundisi hand over all party documents and vacate his position.

But Mfundisi says that will never happen.

The latest developments follow last week's decision by the North West High Court, which ordered that Mangope's party membership be reinstated.

Mangope had approached the court for a review of the decision by the UCDP to terminate his membership.

Judge Nadia Gutta last week found that there was no rational basis to justify the decision to remove Mangope as a member of the party.

Mangope was fired as party leader in October 2010 for allegedly taking unilateral decisions and expelling senior party members.

Mangope's spokesman Aubrey Tlokwe confirmed they had served the party with papers demanding that they hand over everything to Mangope with immediate effect.

Mfundisi said the party respected the judgment but that they were considering an appeal. He said the party would seek a judgment review from the court on the matter.
