THE 'bankrupt' ANC in Limpopo has asked traditional leaders in the province to fund its centenary celebrations on Saturday.

The party has asked for assistance from the houses of traditional leaders of Malebogo, Sekhukhune, Modjadji, Makgoba, Makhado and Mankopane Mokopane.

Yesterday ANC provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane confirmed that the party had asked for help and that a meeting had already taken place.

"They agreed to donate 15 cattle to feed the expected masses," he said.

He claimed that the party was having financial problems because of a number of events held last year, including the December provincial elective conference.

Lekganyane said the party had also funded more than 200 members to attend the centenary celebration in Manguang recently.

"We also had to depend on donations from Good Samaritans to help finance the celebration, " he said.

Last weekend a number of traditional leaders donated cattle to the ANC when it turned 100 years.

King Letsie III of Lesotho donated a bull, which President Jacob Zuma slaughtered.

The abaThembu traditional leaders of Eastern Cape donated 55 head cattle.

Other donations for the celebration came from business- people.
