Dead teachers' families comforted

THE city of Mahikeng came to a standstill yesterday when hundreds of people from all corners of the North West flocked into the Mmabatho Convention Centre to comfort the bereaved families of nine teachers killed in a road crash at the weekend.

Education MEC Raymond Elisha said the province was saddened by the loss of the teachers. "Since the beginning of last year, (it) has lost 213 teachers."

North West premier Thandi Modise urged teachers to make sure they left a legacy behind in the event of their death.

To the families she said: "We feel the pain you are going through. I am proud that those teachers who died, died on their way to make sure that the future of our children looks better."

She also said that the province was under a dark cloud.
