Municipal manager suspended once again

ONLY weeks after being reinstated, Moses Kotane local municipality manager Gobakwang Moatshe has once again been suspended.

Moatshe was initially suspended on May 10 but a CCMA ruling deemed his suspension unconstitutional and he was reinstated on July 7.

But the embattled manager was again suspended on August 4.

Director of infrastructure and technical services Katlego Gabanakgosi has been appointed acting municipal manager.

It has been reported that Moatshe faces a total of 21 charges, including financial misconduct and nepotism.

Municipality spokesperson Beauty Makganye confirmed that Moatshe has been suspended.

"The municipal manager has been suspended and the council has delegated the mayor (councillor Fetsang Mokati-Thebe) to inform the MEC for local and traditional affairs Paul Sebegoe about the decision. Gabanakgosi will now act as manager until the matter has been resolved," Makganye said.

Moatshe said he would challenge the decision.

"It is true that I have been suspended but I have engaged my lawyer on this matter," he said.

"I will appeal because I believe that the correct procedure was not followed. But this is the matter I will discuss with my lawyer.

"When I was first suspended, the CCMA ruling found out that the then administrator Don Seemise had no right to suspend me, and once again, I believe that the same thing has happened."
