Life sentence for Fordsburg murderers

Robbery-motivated murder of Asmal Bilal who had cashed a cheque for R20,000

Two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and robbery by the Johannesburg High Court, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

Samuel Fusi Ntuli and John Siphiwe Ngcobo received life sentences for the robbery-motivated murder of Asmal Bilal on April 30, 2009, Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said in a statement.

They were arrested in Lawley, south of Johannesburg, on May 2 the same year.

The court found Ntuli and Ngcobo attacked Bilal after he cashed a cheque for R20,000 at First National Bank in Fordsburg. They then stole the cash and his cellphone.

“They assaulted him [Bilal] before they strangled and killed him,” Mbele said.
