Lindiwe settles out of court

AFTER defying two court orders to promote a soldier Defence Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has opted for an out-of-court settlement at the 11th hour.

Minutes before the case of Romano Lottering was to be heard in the Pretoria high court on Tuesday, Sisulu's legal team presented him with the settlement.

Lottering had taken Sisulu to court after her failure to comply with two previous court orders - one in August 2008 and another in October last year - ordering her to provide defence force documents that would support Lottering's bid to have his rank adjusted from corporal to lieutenant-colonel.

His last application earlier this month was to have Sisulu jailed for six months, fined or both for contempt of court.

Lottering said the settlement had a confidentiality clause and he could not divulge details.
