Rape accused 'bought' his ex 'new G-string'

DETAILS emerging during cross examination in the case of serial murder and rape accused Jack Mogale have poured cold water on earlier evidence suggesting he gave one of his victim's underwear to a former girlfriend.

DETAILS emerging during cross examination in the case of serial murder and rape accused Jack Mogale have poured cold water on earlier evidence suggesting he gave one of his victim's underwear to a former girlfriend.

Mogale's former live-in lover, Charlotte Manaka, testified on Friday that the items Mogale "bought" her seemed "new" to her.

Among them were a blue women's top, earings and a white thong that was said to belong to an alleged victim of Mogale.

The victim last week testified that Mogale bludgeoned her into unconsciousness with a brick before raping her and then leaving her for dead in an open field in Venterspost, west of Johannesburg, on March 13, 2009.

Westonaria police officer Captain Kgomotso Manthata testified that the victim's "white G-string" was found in Mogale's shack.

However, Manaka told the court that the items she received from Mogale did not look as though they had been used before.

Mogale also allegedly brought home a Samsung E-250 cellphone that he said he "picked up" in Westonaria.

Ironically, Manaka told the court that while they were lovers, she was the main breadwinner as Mogale was unemployed, only doing odd jobs such as "healing people for R150 at a time".

Mogale faces 16 counts of murder, 18 counts of kidnapping, 19 of rape, one of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, one of sexual assault and a count of fraud (alternatively theft).

He also faces a charge of attempted murder, another of escaping from custody and three of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The case was postponed to next Monday.
