MEC calls for tolerance

KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Nomusa Dube, has made a passionate call for tolerance among political parties in KwaZulu-Natal in the run-up to the municipal elections.

Dube is making the call against fears that tempers are running high in certain areas of KwaZulu-Natal among members of rival political parties.

Political parties in the province are in full swing, with many expected to unveil their election manifesto this month in preparation for the elections, which are expected to be widely contested between the ANC, IFP and the newly formed NFP.

"We wish to emphasise the importance of peaceful campaigning during this election period," Dube said.

Though the province's politics are stable, there are certain areas that have remained hotspots, such as Nongoma, Estcourt and Umsinga.
