Man beaten and hacked to death

ANGRY residents of Woodlands in Pietermaritzburg took the law into their own hands and beat and stabbed a man to death.

Police said residents went on the rampage and chased 21-year-old Siboniso Dlamini after he was accused of assaulting a man.

Dlamini was confronted by the mob on Sunday and beaten up with sticks and bush knives.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said Dlamini suffered injuries to his chest and back and had an open wound to the head believed to have been inflicted with a bush knife.

"It's alleged that Dlamini and his friend were involved in an assault at about 1pm on Sunday.

"Initial investigations have established that he was attacked by a group of people from the area," Jeevan said.

A 47-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man have been arrested and are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg magistrate's court soon.
