New mayor is fired up

NEWLY appointed executive mayor of the Capricorn district municipality in Limpopo, Lawrence Mapoulo, has vowed to do everything in his power to accelerate service delivery to restore the dignity of the people.

Mapoulo was speaking during his inauguration at the Seshego Stadium near Polokwane on Saturday.

He was appointed to the position following the resignation of Motalane Monakedi, who has since been appointed to lead Trade and Investment Limpopo, a parastatal responsible for marketing and investment opportunities in the province.

Mapoulo, who is also ANC chairperson of the Peter Mokaba region, said he would like to reduce the backlog of sanitation and water provision in the district.

The Capricorn district currently has a sanitation backlog of 49percent, while that of electricity and water are 23percent and 13percent respectively.

Mapoulo said it was high time that employees of the municipality prioritised quality service delivery.

"The provision of sanitation currently tops my priority list," Mapoulo said.

He warned "laziness would not be tolerated".
