Strikers 'extra' shift

MEMBERS of the South African Municipal Workers Union at the Victor Khanye municipality in Delmas cleaned the streets of the town on Saturday - and will work on another Saturday as well.

The Samwu workers had agreed with the municipal labour council that they would repay two outstanding days during which they were on strike in April. The workers went on a wage strike for four days and the "no work, no pay" rule was applied.

The municipality deducted two days' wages and the workers offered to repay the other two days by working on two Saturdays.

"They picked up papers and other objects in Delmas," said municipal spokesperson Ronald du Toit.
