ZCC Pastor on murder rap

A ZION Christian Church pastor has been arrested for the murder of a woman who had sought help from him.

Tlou Damaris Mojela allegedly went to pastor Setumo Chaps Motadi, 60, of Uitzicht village near Gilead outside Polokwane on June 5 after complaining of not feeling well.

Her body was discovered the following day floating in a small dam in the village.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Ramatseba said their investigations had linked the pastor to the murder.

Motadi was arrested and appeared in court for the murder. He was refused bail until his next court appearance on August 18.

According to a source in the village, Mojela came from nearby Sadu village.

She visited the pastor after a villager recommended "his healing powers".

"The man is known all over the area as having healing powers and everybody recommends people to go to him for assistance," the source said.

It is not yet clear what the woman was suffering from.

"Our investigations have revealed that the woman was last seen entering the suspect's homestead," Ramatseba said yesterday.

He said they hoped that postmortem results would determine the exact cause of the woman's death.

Ramatseba added that police investigations were continuing.

"We also call on members of the community who might have more information relating to the matter to come forward," he said.
