Mpumalanga top matric pupil gets big boost from business
Academic achiever Solly Grootboom is R6500 richer, thanks to Vezubuhle Business Furniture.
Mpumalanga's best 2006 matric candidate scored a 90,3percent pass and produced the biggest number of exemptions in the KwaMhlanga southwest circuit area. Vezubuhle gave him the money last week to motivate him to continue his success at the University of the Witwatersrand where he is studying mechanical engineering.
The handover of the cash followed a motivational campaign on business education in Bronkhorstspruit that the company ran at schools.
During the campaign, the company committed itself to donating money for fees to needy and academically-performing kids.
Solly was the best of them.
He scooped top position in Mpumalanga in last year's matric results.
He passed, on the higher grade, with a B in Sepedi, A in English, B in mathematics, A in physical science, C in biology and B in geography.
The managing director of Vezubuhle, Klaas Skosana, said it was good to give a helping hand to a student like Grootboom because he is also a good example to other pupils.
Grootboom's message to other scholars is: "You must always be the winners and not the failures."
