Gospel artist Winnie Mashaba’s holiday bliss quickly faded after she returned to find that her Whatsapp number had been hacked‚ allegedly causing some of her friends to be scammed out of their money‚ collectively amounting to over R9‚ 300.

Drum reported that while the singer was attending a jazz festival in Singapore‚ the scammers reportedly took advantage of her absence and asked for money from some of her contacts.

“When we suspected that someone had hacked into my account I asked Vodacom to block my number. But now when I came back they said they can’t unblock it‚” she explained‚ although she added that it was later unblocked.

Two of Winnie’s close friends allegedly came forward saying that they were lured into sending money to a person they believed was the gospel star. The crooks told Winnie’s friends that the money was was needed urgently to pay for a fine and directed them to a store money transfer and e-Wallet respectively.
