Gwala in the driver's seat

Journalist, radio and TV personality Xolani Gwala is set to join Talk Radio 702, starting on July 1.

He takes over the 4pm to 6pm slot from David O'Sullivan, who will now move to the 4am to 6am slot on weekdays.

A familiar voice and seasoned journalist, Gwala's return to 702 may be viewed by some media critics as the station's attempt at beefing up their line-up in light of Power FM's entry into the market, which goes live on Tuesday.

But this is disputed by Talk Radio 702stationmanagerPheladi Gwangwa. "It is simply coincidental that the agreement happened now."

Gwala said he was excited about his appointment. "Afternoon Drive is a show with pace and I will give you a wrap of the day's news and current affairs over two hours." - ngubanes@sowetan.co.za
