Tuku celebrates a very special night

MUSIC legend Oliver Mtukudzi celebrates his 60th birhday tonight with his South African fans in a star-studded One Night in Africa show at Carnival City near Johannesburg.

Tuku, as the music legend is popularly known, will perform old hits and a few from his new album, Sarawoga (meaning left alone).

This is Tuku's first album since the tragic death of his son Sam Mtukudzi in a car accident in 2010.

"The album is in memory of my son but not all the songs are around our family's tragedy. There is a track I composed for my daughter, who recently got married." Mtukudzi says.

"I kept thinking to myself that the little girl who used to sit on my lap is now going to be someone's wife. I felt honoured and decided to celebrate her marriage with a track titled Matisika.

"The track is meant to welcome everyone to the occasion."

Produced by Keith "Fox" Farqueson, the latest album sees Mtukudzi adopting a more soulful style that is different from his two previous releases, Dairaiand Rudaviro.

"This album is truly from the heart. It is packed with messages and some outstanding songs that I'm confident my fans will love," Mtukudzi says.

To celebrate this milestone in his life Mtukudzi will share the stage with close friends Steve Dyer, Judith Sephuma, Siphokazi, Hugh Masekela and Zahara.

This show will also be Tuku's first performance in Johannesburg this year.
