WORLD-RENOWNED drummer Julian Sebothane Bahula, and musician and cultural activist Johnny Clegg will be among the recipients of national orders on Friday.
Bahula will receive the Order of Ikhamanga, gold medal, for his contribution to music and the arts, and the struggle for a free and democratic South Africa.
Clegg will receive the Order of Ikhamanga, silver medal, for his contribution to bridging African traditional music with other music forms and promoting racial understanding among raciallydivided groups under apartheid.
The other recipients of the Order of Ikhamanga are Gladys Faith Agulhas, press ombudsman Joe Thloloe, sportsman Cheeky Watson and writer Muthal Naidoo.
The other orders to be given are the Order of Mendi for bravery, the Order of the Baobab, the Order of Luthuli, the Order of Mapungubwe and the Order of the Companions of OR Tambo.
These orders are bestowed by the president as the highest accolades on citizens and people from other countries who have made extraordinary contributions to South Africa and the world.
Zuma will also posthumously honour Inkosi Albert Luthuli and Oliver Tambo, whose esteemed family names have been institutionalised in the national orders because of the unique contributions they made in the struggle for liberation in South Africa.
"We are eternally grateful for their lives and the sacrifices they made to ensure that the people of South Africa are free," said the presidency in a statement yesterday.
Other recipients include Selwyn "Scully" Levin who will receive the Order of the Baobab for his contribution to aviation, and Neil John Sharrocks, who will receive the Order of the Mendi for bravery for saving the lives of 44 children when the bus they were travelling in capsized and fell into a river.
