AMERICAN R&B singer Johnny Gill, who was scheduled to perform in South Africa last year, is said to be on his way to the country, and this time via the Mangaung Cultural Festival (Macufe).
Last year he was billed for two performances at Carnival City in Brakpan bur the tour was cancelled a week before the show .
Gill will share the stage with the country's best musicians at Macufe's main event at the Loch Logan Rose Garden in Bloemfontein on October 8.
Macufe is an annual event that offers the best jazz, gospel, kwaito, hip-hop, dance, drama, cabaret, theatre, fine art and traditional arts and crafts.
Musicians such as Selaelo Selota, Oliver Mtukudzi and Thandiswa Mazwai, Zakes Bantwini, Zahara, Peter Nthoane, among others, will join Gill in entertaining festival-goers.
Born in Washington DC in the US, Gill started singing in a family music group called Wings of Faith at the age of five.
It was in 1983 that his solo career took off, with his self-titled debut album. In 1987 he joined a group called New Edition.
- Bebe Winans, who will also perform at the Festival in Bloemfontein, will wrap up his SA tour on Sunday October 9 at Carnival City.
He will share the stage with local band Jeziel Brothers.
