FANS of the popular Afro-pop outfit Mafikizolo will be chuffed to learn that Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe are back in the studio.

They are back from duo taking a break to pursue their solo careers.

"We are recording two singles and we hope to release it before the end of October. We are also working on a project that will be released next year," Kgosinkwe said.

"We have not recorded together for a while, so we can't just jump into it. Music trends have changed and it's crucial to establish whether our brand of Afro-pop still fits into that category. We know it was popular before but we are working on improving it and hope our fans will love it," Nciza said.

Kgosinkwe released his debut solo album in 2008, titled I Am. It went gold and is on its way to platinum. It was followed by Grateful, which has also gone gold.

The elegant Nciza also did well when her debut solo album, Inguquko, went gold. Ingcinga Zam stopped short of going gold.

But Mafikizolo is back by popular demand.

"We don't want the brand to die but it was also important for us to spread our wings and develop into brands outside our comfort zone," Kgosinkwe explained.

Nciza agreed though she recalls how difficult it was to fly solo.

"I was used to Theo doing all the talking on stage and inviting audiences to sing along. I had to learn to captivate and entertain my fans. I must say I am excited to be in Mafikizolo again. Theo is an awesome performer.

"We just need to be smart about the way we go about our reunion. We are truly excited about the new sound," Nciza enthused.
