Lightning is hotter than the Sun

HAVE you ever rubbed your feet across a carpet, especially during the dry Highveld winters, and then touched a metal door handle? If you have, you know this often ends in you getting a shock. Well, lightning works in the same way.

Lightning is very hot - about 30 000ºC, or six times hotter than the surface of the sun.

It may appear clear or white-yellow in colour, but its colour depends on the background.
