Fish & Chip Co gives away a franchise worth R500,000

As it turned out, the winner had put down his own money on two franchises earlier this year - So now he will have 3 stores

Francois Beetge was announced the winner and proud new owner of his third franchise.

After signing a franchise agreement, Beetge will be assisted with site selection, provided a fully constructed and workable franchise outlet complete with relevant shop specification, as well as R15,000 worth of initial marketing, the company said in a statement.

The competition was open to any participants that paid a R100,000 refundable joining fee to The Fish & Chip Co within the competition period, which ran from 1 February to 31 October 2012.

Beetge and his wife, Celeste, put down their deposits to open two stores in Strand and Eerste Rivier, Western Cape, earlier this year, so it was a massive surprise to be announced as one of the five finalists and an incredible blessing to have won the lucky draw.

“Celeste and I firmly believe in the brand and we are immensely excited about the opportunities that The Fish & Chip Co. have to offer.

"Both our stores will be opening on the 1st of December, while the store that we have just won, will open up in February next year to allow us time to focus on our newly established stores first,” says Beetge.

Taste Holdings Food Division CEO, Christo Calitz, offered his congratulations to Beetge.

“On behalf of The Fish & Chip Co, I would like to congratulate Francois and Celeste for winning this competition. Undoubtedly, they will make full use of this exciting opportunity, and create a thriving and sustainable franchise that will not only benefit their personal business ambitions, but add considerable long term value to our impressive and growing franchise.”

The Beetges will now be legally obliged to run and administer the business for one year from the trading date, and not be allowed to sell the franchise outlet during that period.

Calitz concludes that the competition proved to be an outright success.

“Over 173 people entered the competition. This impressive number firmly indicates that there is considerable interest in The Fish & Chip Co, and that we offer a competitive and lucrative business model for emerging entrepreneurs.”
