De Klerk's suit upheld

FORMER state President FW de Klerk scored a minor victory on Tuesday when the Johannesburg High Court set aside a directive for him to appear in court and produce an assortment of personal documents.

De Klerk lodged an urgent application asking the court to set aside the directive, issued in the Randburg Magistrates' Court in June. It related to a maintenance dispute between De Klerk's adoptive son Frederik Willem de Klerk Jnr and his estranged wife Nicole.

He was ordered to produce his financial statements after Nicole slapped him with a R33000 a month maintenance claim for Frederik's two children.

Judge Frans Kgomo said he was satisfied that De Klerk had made a case.

He then set aside with immediate effect, the directive issued on June 4, requesting De Klerk to appear in court tomorrow.
