Bongani Zungu could be doing light training right now, but he has taken a decision not to rush back into action.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder suffered a hairline fracture of the shin in their 3-2 win at Maritzburg United at the end of January. At the time, the team doctors estimated he would be sidelined for up to 12 weeks.

A recent report, however, claimed that the 23-year-old has resumed light training, but Zungu has told Sowetan that he is far from returning to the field.

"No, I'm not doing light training," Zungu clarified. "I went for an X-ray [scan] two weeks ago and things are looking good, but I took a personal decision not to rush back. So we gave it three more weeks and the club is fine with that.

"The thing is clubs don't control players in terms of rushing them back, but I think sometimes as players we are the ones who want to rush back.

"In 2009, I rushed back from injury and I broke down after just one game. I was still playing amateur football. My concern is rushing back and breaking down again, hence I decided to give this more time," added Zungu, who is leaving Downs to join Portuguese Primeira Liga club Vitoria de Guimaraes at the end of this season.

Zungu may be far from returning to action, but Sundowns defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele is back and could soon be available for selection. Mphahlele twisted his ankle when Sundowns drew 0-0 with Kaizer Chiefs on January 9.
