Mvubu warns former Olympian

Siphiwe Lusizi will rue signing on the dotted line with promoter Andile Sidinile to face Xolani Mvubu at Wild Coast Sun Casino on Friday night, warned trainer Themba Zulu yesterday.

"We are not in the business of welcoming former Olympians," said a confrontational Zulu.

Lusizi, a former Olympian from Mdantsane who is trained by veteran Lennox Mpulampula, has had just one fight in the professional ranks, which he won. The 26-year-old boxer stopped Bongani Ngceshe in less than a minute at Orient Theatre in August.

"People must understand that the amateurs and the professional ranks are two different things. Lusizi did well in the amateurs but this is a different ball game. We are in this game for our own interests, not to teach amateurs how to box," said Zulu of the Geo Maroon Boxing Club in KwaThema, Springs.

He said his left-handed boxer from Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal intended to challenge current WBF International and WBA Pan African junior- middleweight champion France "Fighting Time" Ramabolu.

Mvubu, the stocky former KwaZulu-Natal junior-middleweight champion has nine wins from 17 bouts. Another youngster, who has been warned not to expect favours on Friday is Nhlanhla "24" Ngamntwini. Khanyakude Mukansi warned the tiny fighter from Duncan Village that he would lose their rematch.

Ngamntwini outpointed Mukansi over eight rounds at the Orient Theatre in East London in 2013.

These bouts will form part of the seven-bout card - dubbed War on the Shore - that will be supervised by BSA's East London-based service provider Phakamile Jacobs.

Promoter Andile Sidinile, who will jointly present these bouts with Kalakoka Promotions, said action will begin at 7pm.
