HAPPY Jele has described Orlando Pirates' decision to extend his stay with the club as a major boost for him coming back from a career-threatening injury.

The former Bafana Bafana defender has been rewarded with a further three-year contract, which will see him stay with Pirates until 2015. This will end speculation that the former Witbank Spurs player was on his way out.

Jele damaged his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments and tore the meniscus in his knee after colliding with Bidvest Wits defender Siboniso Gumede in Mbombela last November.

"Pirates are a big club, one of the big brands globally in sports. So it is a great honour to have been offered a new contract to remain with the club," said Jele.

"It's a major boost for me because it comes at a time when I have just recovered from a long-term injury. It has been frustrating for me watching my team play from the stands.

"The new contract is a vote of confidence from the management. All I have to do is to redouble my efforts to make them and the fans happy.

"My rehabilitation has gone well and I have been training with the rest of the guys.

"I know my chance will come."
