Woman says face-chewing attacker was religious

A South Florida woman says she often read religious texts with a man who chewed off the face of a homeless man.

Yovonka Bryant said that she last heard from her boyfriend, Rudy Eugene, the day before the attack alongside a Miami highway. A police officer shot and killed Eugene. The homeless man remains hospitalized.

Bryant says she and Eugene often read the Bible and the Koran together and watched a religious television program every morning. The couple had been dating since March.

It's not clear what led to the May 26 attack. Eugene's autopsy results are still pending.

Court records show he had several arrests on marijuana-related charges. Eugene's brother has said Eugene did not do hard drugs. Bryant says she only saw Eugene smoke marijuana once.
