ANC activists who earlier march to the party’s headquarters calling for the resignation of President Jacob Zuma will determine their next move after the party’s national executive committee (NEC) meeting this weekend.

Gugu Ndima‚ one of organisers of the march under the banner of #OccupyLuthuliHouse‚ said on Friday said they hoped the NEC would steer the party in the right direction.

“We remain resolute in our demands to save the ANC. We hope the NEC meeting will provide much needed guidance‚” she said.

They marched to Luthuli House on September 5 and were greeted by razor wire‚ police‚ private security and uniformed members of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans’ Association. Police had to form a human chain to prevent scuffles.

The group handed over a list of demands to ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe‚ including calling for the resignation of Zuma and entire NEC. They also demanded that veterans of the party should form a task team to take the ANC through a consultative conference and gave the party a deadline to respond by the end of September.

Ndima‚ who is an author and social commentator‚ wrote in an opinion piece last month: “Leaders occupying Luthuli are no longer trusted to uphold the constitution of the organisation‚ as many organisational and constitutional transgressions have been sanctioned under their watch.” — TMG Digital
