A fourth illegal miner has been rescued from a mine shaft at Langlaagte west of Johannesburg‚ Eyewitness News (EWN) reported‚ adding that a number of people were still trapped underground.
ENCA television news reported that at least six other men who went missing in the shaft on Wednesday were feared dead.
It quoted police spokesperson Kay Makhubela as saying that 16 family members went down to try to save those trapped on Thursday but that only eight had returned to the surface. The rest were now trapped with the illegal miners.
