Health manager describes three confrontations with Oscar

An assistant health manager at the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison described three incidents in which Oscar Pistorius confronted her while he was serving time for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Charlotte Mashabane said the first incident happened in March last year when she went for morning runs to check on the patients in the hospital wing of the prison‚ where Pistorius was located.

“We normally greet patients. Things changed on that day. He said I was disturbing him. He said ‘Get out. I am still asleep’.”

Mashabane said she told Pistorius that nurses had a duty to check on all the patients.

“I told him he must understand we are doing our duties. He said ‘Get out. Get out’.”

Another incident Mashabane described was when Pistorius confronted her in her office to demand feedback on his request for a medicine supplement and an athlete recovery system.

Mashabane said she had to write the memorandum to the director for approval and this usually did not happen immediately.

“When he entered the office he came alone and then said he was looking for me.

I was seated at a table with two nurses. He said he needed feedback. I told him this would not take two days.

“He used a diary to bang next to the table where we were seated. I told him I do not have feedback.”

Mashabane said the third incident was when medication was brought to the hospital wing without the knowledge of the nursing staff.

Mashabane did not want Pistorius to receive the medication because procedures were not followed.

“He started again with these tantrums. He said the medication prescribed by the prison doctor was not working. After the third incident‚ I was requested by my head not to interact anymore with Oscar.”

Mashabane said she did not hear anything about Pistorius being assaulted in prison

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked Mashabane whether she heard of Pistorius having a “blue eye”

Mashabane said she was told Pistorius had sustained an injury because he had slipped while lifting training equipment.

Pistorius was initially convicted of culpable homicide in 2014 for the killing of Steenkamp in 2013. He served one year of his five-year prison term before being released on parole last year

However‚ the Supreme Court of Appeal set aside the culpable homicide conviction and replaced it with the murder conviction.
