His new cellphone will be launched next month, but Cassper Nyovest has some unpaid rent to deal with.

The charismatic rapper has been announced as the brand ambassador for AG Mobile and has helped design the gadget in partnership with MTN.

But his former protégé Chad da Don won't be first in line to buy the cellphone. Don threw down the gauntlet yesterday when he released a track with scathing lyrics directed at Nyovest, titled Chad is Better, in which he claims that Nyovest owes him money he borrowed to pay his rent back in the day.

Shooting from the hip, he raps: "You are a joke compared to how I played my cards. [I] Left the label, now I'm moving on. I can't tell you why but I'mma prove you wrong. I heard you have money now, spent about R500k on a Bent [Bentley], that's okay motherf**** r, remember the money you owe me for rent."

Don refused to divulge how much Nyovest owed him.

"We had our issues but that's all behind us. This is the story of Chad. I'm not trying to start fights. Everybody thinks it's beef but it's not. It's just a good track. To be frank, I'm not worried about who is my friend or not. I'm just here to tell my story and motivate kids," he said.

In the song Don charges that Nyovest could have believed in him more when he was under Nyovest's wing and accused his former mentor of mimicking international acts and selling the music as his own.

Don broke into fame under Nyovest's tutelage and under his Family Tree Records, a stable he dumped late last year.

He said Nyovest had not made contact with him since the release of the track, though he doubted Nyovest would "brave up" to the lyrics.

Don played down the statements he made against Nyovest and said it was only to liven up competition in the rap game.

"Rap is a sport for me. I just felt like I had to tell my story and tell what I've been through. This is not a diss track, this is the story of Chad. I have no hard feelings towards anybody. Rap culture is about showing off your skills," he said.

The cover art for the single depicts a pair of scissors cutting what seems to be an image of Nyovest's synthetic ponytail.

Nyovest could not be reached for comment.
