The police crime intelligence unit has all its ducks in a row when it comes to Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir, Hawks national spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi insisted on Thursday.
Malaudzi was referring to reports in The Star newspaper of an alleged plot by Krejcir to kill high court Judge Colin Lamont, who convicted him on charges of kidnapping, attempted murder and attempted possession of drugs in August 2015.
Krejcir was allegedly also planning to take out the investigating team and private investigator Paul O'Sullivan, The Star reported.
"We are not aware of the alleged plot by Krejcir, but we do take these allegations seriously and we will be investigating. We have remained a step ahead in this investigation," he said..
Malaudzi said all security measures would be taken to ensure security personnel deal with whatever threat might come from Krejcir.
He said they had investigated several threats and allegations since Krejcir had been imprisoned.
"We cannot talk about operational measures. Due to the nature of this case we have had several investigations [into] alleged threats. All of these have been taken seriously."
The Star said Krejcir had apparently hired a European hitman. It reported that the alleged hitman tried to visit Krejcir in Kokstad C-Max in December to hatch a plan for the assassinations, but officials prevented this.
"A top cop had rushed to the Kokstad maximum security facility the following day and demanded all the video footage showing the faces of visitors, claiming he was going to investigate the matter," The Star reported.
Malaudzi denied this, saying "We do not know about this."
