South Africa has a woman president - briefly

The Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women‚ Susan Shabangu‚ is acting as President of the Republic during the absence of both President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.

She was sworn in by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng at the Constitutional Court today‚ the presidency said in a statement.

President Jacob Zuma has travelled to New Delhi in India‚ where he is leading a South African delegation to the Third India Africa Forum Summit. The summit ends on Friday.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is on a three-nation tour of Sweden‚ Cuba and Mexico. He is currently at the Open Government Partnership Global Summit in Mexico City‚ which ends today (28 October 2015).
