Durban businessman, Prince Sifiso Zulu, dies aged 42

Prince Sifiso Zulu has passed away allegedly from a lung infection.

The Durban businessman was convicted of culpable homicide in 2010, after driving his BMW into a bakkie full of students, killing two and injuring ten others, leaving one paralysed.

Zulu was drunk and had skipped a red robot. He was also found guilty of reckless and negligent driving, speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving with number plates that were false.

Zulu served only nine months of his three-year- sentence. He was in a group of prisoners countrywide who benefited from an 18-month remission of sentence announced by President Jacob Zuma.

The family spokesperson, Sifiso Sonjica , told News24 that they were told he passed away because of a lung infection.

“We were initially told it was a lung infection. Sadly at 10:00[on Wednesday morning] he passed away. No one knew he was ill,” said Sonjica.

Sonjica went on to say that Zulu never recovered from the accident that happened in 2010.

“It was a tragedy. It wasn’t easy for him or the families involved. He would often be asked by the Department of Correctional Services to speak to offenders on issues such as life after prison.”

His family according to Sonjica is ‘completely shocked’ by his passing as no one knew that he was ill.
