The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Madibeng‚ North West Province‚ said on Tuesday it was concerned after six leased municipal bakkies were repossessed due to non-payment.
Eddie Barlow‚ DA caucus leader in Madibeng‚ said the six one ton bakkies were used by the department of technical services‚ mainly for maintenance work on roads and storm water drainage.
“This is a huge blow for the municipality whoch already has limited capacity to function effectively.
“The DA was reliably told that the vehicles were repossessed after the municipality failed to pay the leasing company for a few months.
“The DA will today write to the acting municipal manager‚ Energy Manaka‚ and urge him to urgently make the necessary payment arrangements and ensure that these bakkies are returned to the municipality‚” said Barlow.
