Maimane to talk about Marikana compensation bill

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane will on Monday visit affected families to tell them about the Marikana Victims Compensation Special Appropriation Bill his party intends tabling in Parliament.

“Maimane will articulate to the affected families and the community what steps the DA is taking in order to endure that justice prevails‚” DA spokesperson Mabine Seabe said in a statement.

“The bill will provide for the compensation of the dependents of victims with a fair‚ actuarial determination of past and future loss of support.”

Maimane’s visit follows the release last week of the report by the Farlam Commission of Inquiry into the deaths of 44 people during a wage strike at the Lonmin mine in August 2012.
