A pupil from a top boys' school in the north of Johannesburg faces expulsion after he admitted to sexually assaulting another pupil.

The incident happened in the school's toilets last month. The Grade 12 pupil confessed to forcing himself on another Grade 12 pupil and masturbating on his pants.

Sowetan has seen a report by the school that details how the incident occurred.

In the report, the pupil described he was about to leave the toilet when another boy tried to remove his blazer. "[The pupil] asked him to stop what he was doing. He then forced himself on [the pupil] and when asked to leave the toilet he dropped his pants and started masturbating on him," read the report.

The pupil reported the matter to a teacher, and according to the teacher, the pupil had semen on his pants.

The boy's parents were called to the school to be presented with a charge sheet as well as a notice for the disciplinary hearing.

According to the report, the perpetrator had repeatedly denied he had sexually abused another pupil.

The mother of the pupil said she would not press criminal charges against the boy if he pleaded guilty.

The report describes the boy as a "serious danger to other learners".

After the disciplinary hearing, the school governing body (SGB) recommended he be expelled.

However, he has been allowed to write exams and attend classes until a final decision has been made by the Gauteng education's head of department (HOD) Boy Ngobeni.

The SA Schools Act states a HOD must consider recommendations by the SGB and must decide whether or not to expel a pupil within 14 days of receiving such a recommendation.

Education department spokeswoman Phumla Sekhonyane said they had offered counselling to the pupil who was sexually assaulted.

Women and Men Against Child Abuse spokeswoman Vincentia Dlamini-Ngobese said cases of child-on-child sexual abuse were rife.

"The numbers are getting high, and boy children are becoming victims and they are starting to report these kind of abuses."

Earlier this year four pupils from Jan Kempdorp High School in Northern Cape were arrested on charges of rape and assault.

This is after they were caught on camera raping a pupil with a broomstick.

In another incident this year, a 10-year-old pupil was sexually assaulted by another in a toilet at a school in Rabie Ridge outside Midrand.
