Police had to intervene to defuse tensions between pupils of Jongitaba Senior Secondary School in Mqhekezweni outside Mthatha on Monday.

The clash follows the stoning of three school buses last week.

It is alleged that a group of disgruntled pupils last Thursday smashed the buses’ windows in protest against the inadequate provision of scholar transport to children from other villages.

In an apparent retaliation‚ the pupils who were on the buses last week confronted those accused of the stoning.

No injuries were reported‚ but the school was closed on Monay morning and pupils told to return with their parents on Tuesday.

The school principal would not speak to the Daily Dispatch when approached for comment.
