‘Crooks’ working in Gauteng’s hospitals‚ says DA

A breakdown in the disciplinary process means that there are “known crooks and incompetents working in Gauteng hospitals”‚ says the Democratic Alliance’s Jack Bloom.

According to Bloom‚ Gauteng’s MEC for health Qedani Mahlangu told the provincial legislature that 37 employees in public hospitals are working “despite being dismissed for offences that include fraud‚ gross misconduct‚ assault and theft”.

“Most of these employees were initially suspended‚” says Bloom‚ “but were allowed back because their appeal was not heard within the required 30 days.

“Out of 47 appeals‚ 10 people were dismissed because of absence‚ but 37 others remain in their jobs earning a full salary.”

According to Bloom‚ Mahlangu said the recently appointed Appeal Advisory Committee is “working on a fast-track programme to ensure the finalisation of the outstanding appeals”.
