Toilet stink hit township schools

An investigation by a Sowetan team exposes the horrific conditions at Gauteng’s township school toilets.

Bloody sanitary pads scattered on the floor, blocked toilets and the intense smell of stale urine are some of the things pupils are forced to contend with everyday. Pupils speak of how they survive the daily humiliation while the government said someone else is to blame for the horror.

More trouble for broke Cosatu

In addition to the split and other controversies Cosatu is facing, leaked documents show the labour federation is also in a financial crisis. It is considering doing what it is always toyi-toying against: retrenching and freezing posts.  It also wants its alliance partner the South African Communist Party to pay for some of the services it has enjoyed for free. Bhaka on his future with Kelly

Bhaka stole the show at the memorial service of Umhlobo Wenene veteran presenter Saba Mbixane in Durban. The flamboyant herbalist, famous for dating Kelly Khumalo, flashed cash on stage and gloated as he donated R5000 to the Mbixanes. The broadcaster will be buried on Sunday in Mount Frere, Eastern Cape. Bhaka also alluded to his future with Kelly. More details in Sowetan's print edition.
