Four members of the Economic Freedom Fighters on Tuesday launched a campaign called "Save the soul of the EFF".

EFF MP Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala told reporters in Sandton, Johannesburg: "We launch this campaign today because our leaders are at the centre of eroding the identity of the EFF.

"We have no home other than the EFF, but we cannot allow our movement's soul to be destroyed by behaviours imported from the ruling party."

Litchfield-Tshabalala was joined by fellow EFF MPs Andile Mngxitama, Lucky Twala, and Mpho Ramakatsa.

Earlier on Tuesday, the EFF announced that it had suspended Mngxitama and Litchfield-Tshabalala.

"The central command team of the Economic Freedom Fighters has taken a decision to take disciplinary action against fighters Andile Mngxitama and Khanyisile Tshabalala," national spokesman Mbuyiseni Quintin Ndlozi said in a statement.

"This is strictly an internal process and we shall not be engaging the media about it beyond this point."

The EFF hoped the media would therefore be patient and allow the process its due space.

"Similarly, the leadership hopes that fighters Mngxitama and Tshabalala will also co-operate and give the internal process of the organisation due respect and attention," Ndlozi said.

Litchfield-Tshabalala and Mngxitama were launching the campaign along with Twala and Ramakatsa.

Earlier, a scuffle ensued as a handful of EFF members tried to block the hotel entrance, preventing Mngxitama and his supporters from entering the venue.
