Mayor in court for assault

The mayor of Kgetlengrivier local municipality, Kim Medupe, appeared in court on a charge of assault, North West police said on Wednesday.

She appeared in the Koster Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where the case was postponed to March 12, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

Medupe, 39, allegedly assaulted a 33-year-old woman in Reagile on Saturday.

"It is alleged that the complainant was forcefully bundled into the accused car and taken to Wysfontein farm where she was assaulted."

Medupe appeared alongside her alleged accomplice Dinah Moema, 36.

"The motive for the alleged assault will be part of evidence presented in court," Mokgwabone said.

The two were released on a warning.

The Sowetan reported on Tuesday that Medupe allegedly assaulted Nthibang Tlhong, 33, cut her clothes off and left her naked in a veld on Saturday, after accusing her of having an affair with her husband.
