Rape victim defeats fear - after second attack she steals man's ID to open a case

HE PLACED a knife next to her, switched on the stove and placed a steel iron on it.

"He said he would burn me if I did not open my legs. He had a scary look on his face and I believed that he would burn me.

"He raped me and when he was done he rested on top of me. He did not get off. I continued to cry begging him to get off but he refused.

"After a while he raped me again and warned me to keep quiet or he would kill me."

This is the harrowing ordeal of a woman from Winnie Mandela Zone 10 in Tembisa, who was raped by a neighbour.

Although the man was later arrested by police, tenants at the residential quarters where they live said they were still traumatised [by the attack] and feared for their lives.

Female tenants in the yard described the man as aggressive.

The woman said she was preparing to take a bath when she went to the outside toilet she shared with other tenants.

She found him near the toilet and he asked her to help him remove his laundry from the washing line. He grabbed her by the hand when she refused.

"I had wrapped a towel around my chest. I asked him to let me go but he grabbed my waist tightly on both sides and pushed me to his room.

"He told me that he wanted to sleep with me and when I refused he assaulted me all over my body".

She said he then placed a knife next to her, switched on the stove and placed a steel iron on it.

She said she was too afraid to tell her roommate what had happened.

The man came to her room the following day and ordered her to come to his room.

She said she refused but he assaulted her in front of other tenants and dragged her to his room.

"He assaulted me again before he ordered me to clean his room, make his bed and wash the dishes. He then asked me to stay in his room until he returns."

The woman said she searched the room and found his ID from which she copied his full names while he was gone.

A fellow tenant accompanied her to the police station where she reported the matter.

He was later arrested and charged with rape and assault.
