Boy held for driving pupils to school

A teenager has been arrested for driving an unroadworthy SUV to drop 14 children off at schools in Alexandra, Johannesburg metro police said on Wednesday.

"The 17-year-old-boy was stopped yesterday [Tuesday] morning. The car was unroadworthy and overloaded, and he had no licence," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Police also found a small portion of the drug Nyaope in his possession.

The teenager's father, who was not currently in the province, apparently gave his son permission to use the vehicle.

Minnaar said the father would be charged for allowing an underage and unlicensed person to drive the vehicle.

The teenager faces charges of possession of drugs, and driving an unlicensed and overloaded vehicle.
