Airport gang robs former deputy minister

Former deputy finance minister Jabu Moleketi has been robbed by a gang which targets people leaving OR Tambo International Airport, in Kempton Park, the Sunday Times reported.

"Quite clearly, they were rushed. They just grabbed the suitcases," Moleketi was quoted as telling the newspaper about the attack at his home in Observatory on Saturday.

Moleketi, who chairs the Development Bank of Southern Africa, had returned from a G20 meeting in Russia on Saturday morning.

"Obviously, they followed us [from the airport]. As we entered our house, they blocked the sensor [of the gate] and ran out with guns."

Moleketi reportedly said the items stolen were worth about R70,000.

Police reportedly confirmed to the Sunday Times that an investigation was underway.
