"A liar, a liar and a liar" - Now killer will be sentenced on what would have been the birthday of one of his victims

That is how Judge Ndawoyakhe Tshabalala described double murder and rape accused Lucky Sithembiso Shezi in the South Gauteng High Court sitting in the Delmas Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Shezi was convicted yesterday of the murders of Alice Komane and Liesel Fourie in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Tshabalala pointed to a number of inconsistencies in Shezi's testimony.

"You said you knew that she [Komane] worked at a hospital, when initially you had said you didn't know if she worked.

"You then said she was employed next to a school where her child attended," Tshabalala said.

Regarding Fourie's death, Tshabalala said: "You testified that the deceased sent you to her car to fetch her bag and you later said Nigerians sent you to pick up her spray".

Tshabalala added that even when presented with an opportunity to defend himself, Shezi had failed.

"Sometimes you said 'no comment' and when it was pointed out to you you gave three contrasting versions, you said: 'I stick to the last version'," Tshabalala said.

Fourie was raped and killed where her vehicle was found.

The postponement of the case to February 18 next year for sentencing made Komane's mother, Mumsy, cry.

"That was her birthday, the day she was killed and also when he [Shezi] will be sentenced," Komane said.
