FORMER Western Cape ANC chairman Mcebisi Skwatsha is crying foul after his branch in Gugulethu nominated Kgalema Motlanthe as the party's next president.

Skwatsha is supporting incumbent Jacob Zuma for a second term.

Skwatsha and branch chairman Themba Sikhutshwa allege the meeting was not properly constituted, and thus its decisions could not be carried through.

"The ANC constitution clearly states that at a nominating meeting, all the members [of the branch] have to be notified. I was not notified of this meeting," Skwatsha said.

He claimed the branch executive was unaware of the meeting. "We have 1200 members at this branch and I can say that Kgalema Motlanthe's nomination does not represent the views of the branch members."

Sikhutshwa said his branch executive would write to ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe to complain.

However, regional secretary Vuyiso Tyhalisisu said the executive knew about the meeting.
