Man arrested after Fourways robbery

An armed man was arrested on William Nicol Drive on Wednesday after allegedly robbing a shop in Fourways, Johannesburg police said.

Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said a group of three to four men broke into an electronics shop on Wednesday morning.

"The group of men tried fleeing the shop in a getaway vehicle but were chased by security and police down William Nicol Drive before a shootout ensued."

She said the armed men lost control of their vehicle before crashing into a minibus.

"The men abandoned their vehicle and police managed to arrest one man, in his 30s. The rest of the group fled on foot."

Police confiscated three unlicensed firearms, an R4 rifle, a 9mm pistol and a revolver in the getaway vehicle.

Mogale said one person from the minibus sustained minor injuries.
