Pupils upbeat despite protest

DESPITE disruptions at their school last month pupils at Cosmo City Secondary School are confident about achieving good matric results.

Three pupils and a police officer were injured during protests at the school last month. Two police cars were damaged.

Gauteng department of education head Boy Ngobeni announced that attempts to mediate in the ongoing dispute between principal Wilheminah Matsebatlela and the school's governing body chairman Shumani Thomoli had failed.

A forensic probe into the school funds has been instituted.

Thomoli, the Congress of SA Students and the local ANC Youth League have been calling for Matsebatlela and deputy principal Maano Ramadwa's removal for allegedly mismanaging funds.

Matsebatlela has been instructed to report to head office while a caretaker principal is assigned to the school.

Yesterday, after writing accounting, Kgothatso Maponyane echoed other pupils' sentiments: "The exam was fair. I am now looking forward to writing the maths exam on Friday."
