Men were in KwaZulu-Natal court for another ATM bombing case

THREE men accused of killing a Soweto police reservist during an ATM bombing two months ago failed to appear in the Protea magistrate's court yesterday.

Magistrate Robert Button postponed the case against Sifiso Shezi, Hector Mabaso and Nkosinathi Masina to next month.

It is alleged that Shezi and Mabaso played a role in the fatal shooting of Busisiwe Mehlwana during an ATM bombing at a Total garage in Pimville, Soweto, on July 5.

Sowetan learnt that the men were in Durban, Kwa-Zulu-Natal, attending another ATM bombing-related case.

During Mabaso and Shezi's appearance last month prosecutor Yusuf Baba told the court that the police were going to arrest a third suspect who turned out to be Masina.

Mabaso and Shezi also face a string of other ATM bombing cases in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mabaso, Shezi and Masina are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery, malicious damage to property and possession of explosives. The trio is expected to appear in court on October 5.
