More woes for tycoon's accused wife

DORIS Mthembi, the estranged wife of Thohoyandou businessman Goddard Mugwena who is facing charges of attempted murder, is in more trouble.

This follows allegations that she hired assassins to kill the businessman.

Mthembi, 44, has also been charged with fraud on allegations that she defrauded Inject Med, the school owned by Mugwena. She had allegedly channelled funds paid by trainee paramedics into her own account.

She also allegedly channelled funds totalling R600,000 from the businessman's creditors into her personal account.

Yesterday the Assets Forfeiture Unit attached her assets totalling R1 million to recoup the money allegedly defrauded from the businessman.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mohale Ramatseba confirmed that police had seized two cars, a BMW and a Honda Ballade, two houses, one in Nkowankowa and another in Thohoyandou, as well as two plots.

Mthembi and her co-accused, Nelly Lekgetho, 54, are both out on R6,000 bail and will appear in court on July 11.

But Lekgetho had no assets that the state could attach, Ramatseba said.

Mthembi made headlines after her arrest following claims that she had hired assassins to kill her husband.

Her other co-accused is Joe Ragwala, who was an actor in the soapie Muvhango. He is now her live-in lover.

Mugwena was happy after the seizure and said: "Justice is being done, people must work hard rather than becoming millionaires on other people's seat."
